CONVERTERS |
A phase converter is a cheap alternative to run 3-phase electric motors when a 3-phase 415-volt mains supply is not available. The converter provides an artificial means by which a 3-phase motor can be operated from a single-phase 240-volt supply.

This will allow any combination of motors or machines to be run with no adjustment required at the converter. As a general rule in choosing a rotary converter decide on the largest motor of any machine to be run, and double this figure. Also, several smaller motors can be run simultaneously up to the capacity of the converter.

N.B. All converters feature a built-in ammeter enabling the operator to see at a glance the level of the current drawn from the single-phase supply. An output point via a three-phase and earth socket (or three-phase, neutral and earth where applicable) conforming to BS 4343 and rated at either 16A or 32A.
