D.C. INJECTION BRAKES |
The D.C. injection BRAKE GENIE is suitable for all kinds of A.C. motors with braking capacity of up to twice motor-rated current. The motor brake is constructed to very strict requirements for fast and safe braking of moving parts. The system performance is monitored by a micro-controller prohibiting a restart in case of functional deviations.
The BRAKE GENIE creates a braking torque by using a thyristor controlled D.C. current. The braking torque and the braking time, which depend on the actual motor and the inertia of the moving parts, can easily be set by adjusting the current and the time thumb-wheel switches. Braking starts automatically when the motor contactor cuts out, regardless of automatic or manual operation, e.g. by operation of an emergency stop.
The D.C. braking current is injected into two motor terminals after the three-phase supply has been disconnected. The magnitude of the braking current and braking torque is dependent on: 1. The stator winding resistance of the motor. 2. The setting of the current on the micro-controller. In practice, the braking current should be adjusted to no more than twice the motor rated current. Examples of applications: Fast stop of lathe, milling machine, grinder, circular saw, planer, spindle moulder, thicknesser, etc. |
